I'm honest but constructive. I'll explain why I give the number of stars I give and what you could do to improve that. I do fix grammar as well as look at style, emotional triggers, characters, and other things like that. I'll get back to you with a full review in a couple of days or so after the request, depending on the length of the item.
I’m not a technical reviewer but I will sometimes make suggestions or recommendations for improvements. I typically judge by the content of the piece.
I will write a detailed review of your item that goes into detail about the positives and negatives of your item. I color code each section so everything is easy to see once you view your review.
I have my own style- What I found Worked Well; What Technical concerns I found, such as grammar or spelling; Suggestions for improvement; and Overall impressions.
I'll give a quick summary of your item. Afterwards, I'll talk about your characters, any Spelling or Grammar issues, and perhaps suggest some things, like adding the item to a Genre that it would fit into.
| I will give the kind of review that I wish people gave me: rather detailed with emphasis on areas that need growth and areas that are pretty good already. And I'll review pretty much anything, whether a poem or an entire novel or anything in between. Admittedly, though, I do tend to be absent-minded, so it does happen that you might have to resend me the review request, but I promise I'll get around to it eventually.
Alternatively, if you ask, I can give you a scathing review with no fluff, if that is what you desire. However, in general, I'll give a polite, padded review.
If you're looking for a reviewer for your novel, I am open to doing chapter by chapter reviews. If that's what you want, please email me. |
I like a review that makes me edit, even if it bothers me or offends me. So I look at your piece with, "What would I change to make this better and why?" And I write down most of what I think... the limit being how much you paid, more than how much you can handle! And of course there's no guarantee that my advice won't make it worse. Well, except the long list of bestseller credits-- oh, I haven't published them yet. But feel free to request a refund if I really like your piece. It's happened, sometimes I'm in too good of a mood and I think your work is perfect. If it was, you'd be submitting it for a royalty advance... praise is nice but it's like Chinese food, you need more in an hour. Whereas critique sticks to your ribs...
As a reviewer of your work, I will first look for identification in what you are presenting. When a reader can truly identify with the writer, emotion sets in and the story becomes a part of the reader as well as the writer.
My goal is to give a detailed, organized review that highlights the positive characteristics of the work, while also touching on any areas that might benefit from some editing. All of my reviews are, of course, just suggestions and meant to be helpful to the author. I am always available via WDC email if more input is needed on any aspect of the review.
Friends, 1. I always like to look at the positive aspects of the story I am reviewing and highlight them. 2. This is because I firmly believe in the principle, "The best building is that building which stands on the strongest foundation." 3. And I believe that the strongest foundation, in the case of a story, is that of appreciation and gratitude for its author. Essayist
My opinion will rely heavily on content, character and story arc, and reflect anything that catches my eye...purely from a readers standpoint.
| Unsentimental. I focus on the kinds of craft issues that will keep a writer from being taken seriously and prevent them from fully expressing their vision.

I will say what I liked about your piece and if I have any suggestions for improvement. My reviews are usually short, sweet and to the point. I prefer to review short stories but will look at poetry if asked to.
I will be honest in all my reviews. I will give you both good and negative feedback, and I will not hold back on the truth. My main goal is for the author to take my feedback and mold it into ideas on how to better their writing.
I am thorough. The technical aspects are important to me as much as if the story makes sense. The word "cruel" has been used before when responding to a review I've given, but in an appreciative and kind way.
While I consider myself apt enough to provide decent, kind feedback, I'm not the sort of person to laud a man's writings. Instead, I seek to find smaller, more intricate points of interest within their writings so that I might offer suggestions and feedback so that they might better aid the flow of their work.
